Re-animating lost echoes of cooperative dwelling at 835 Kings Road, West Hollywood

Movie Information

835 Kings Road is a classic example of early Californian modernist architecture. Constructed in 1922, this modernist home was initiated by four creative friends working to live together in a creative “cooperative enterprise”. But their ambitious and shared dream failed dramatically: within two years, one member of the group had attempted suicide and two others had abruptly left the project. In this stop-motion animated film carefully-made puppets of the original residents re-inhabit a set of their original self-built home. Sitting together, the puppets make repeated attempts to engage with each other in a different and, perhaps this time, a more mutually co-operative and less violent way.
